. rick reichmuth, thank you. >> reporter: you bet. ♪ megyn: well n connecticut new developments today in the investigation into the sandy hook elementary school tragedy. the state's chief medical examiner is now asking a geneticist at the university of connecticut to contribute to this investigation into the shooter. the 20-year-old lanza last week shot 20 children and 6 adults at a school in newtown, connecticut. he also killed his mother that morning and then, ultimately, turned the gun on himself as police moved in. we are also hearing that attorney general eric holder will travel to connecticut tomorrow to meet with investigators as we get reports that police are running into brick walls in their search for a motive. just ahead, world-renowned forensic pathologist michael baden who was part of the reinvestigation of the jfk assassination just to name one -- he gave testimony at the murder trial of o.j. simpson -- he'll be here live to talk about why a geneticist has joined this case and what he could possibly do. >>> well, yesterday hundreds of mourners paid their respects to one

their hearts to the families of newtown, connecticut. >>> very good morning. nice to see you this morning. we begin with secretary of state hillary clinton in the hospital. clinton was admitted to new york presbyterian hospital after the discovery of a blood clot stemming from a consuggestion so suffered earlier this month. she's being treated with blood thinners and doctors will northern the medication over the next two days. the 65-year-old clinton fell and suffered a concussion when she fainted while home alone in mid-december as she recovered from a stomach virus that left her severely dehydrated. she planned to return network this week. it's crunch time on capitol hill. senate and house negotiators have a few crucial hours to come up with a compromise to avert the looming financial mess. if they don't here's what will happen. everyone's tax rates will go up. $1.2 trillion in federal spending cuts begin to kick in. the payroll tax holiday enacted under president obama will expire. the alternative minimum tax kicks in and several tax deductions will also expire. nbc's danielle leigh is on

to turn now to the latest from newtown, connecticut. six more of the victims from friday's massacre will be laid to rest today. as life slowly begins to return to normal for most of the other students in that school district. but in a community still on-edge, another threat kept an elementary school closed. amy robach joins us, now, from newtown. amy, hard to believe this jarring development, happening a week later. >> reporter: it is a difficult situation for everyone here. and we know that the mourning and the funerals continue this week. one of the many reasons why sandy hook students will not be returning to school until after the holidays. in fact, the school superintendent just told me they are planning on january 2nd. that said, newtown public schools are in full swing today. we've seen dozens of school buses driving through town. but those schools are certainly still facing many challenges bringing their students back into the classroom. this morning, parents of sandy hook elementary students say their children will return to school some time in january. relocating to this e

, and eight in connecticut, many parents in the area are just at wit's end trying to make life normal for their kids as they live in shelters. that's what camp tlc is doing, together living with a challenge. they've just wrapped up their third week of camp sandy and they've had a lot of fun. it was carnival day. as parents are leaving with their children, they're allowed to stop by here, this distribution center and pick up nonperrishables and other necessities. earlier this morning, about 10:00 o'clock, a bus driver picked up about 30 kids and many of their parents as well from a shelter here in staten island and took them to gateway academy. kids from ages four to 16 share their stories, do sing alongs, arts and crafts, and burn off their energy. parents can either participate in camp activities or run errands, talk to insurance companies and find more permanent places for their kids to sleep at night. >> short-term, i think it's giving parents respite, letting parents know they can rebuild their lives and their kids are in good hands. i think long-term, it's teaching kids that ther
